Japan team manager Hajime Moriyasu bows to the crowd as team plays its last match

Despite being defeated, Japanese football manager Hajime Moriyasu showed his gratitude and appreciation for the fans at the Al Janoub Stadium.

Anyone who observes good sportsmanship between competitors will recognize it as an adherence to a set of rules that extend beyond the rules of the match.

These are rules such as honor and unwavering respect for fellow competitors.

Being gracious entails standing up at the end of the competition and looking your opponent in the eyes, professionally and purposefully.

Learning to accept defeat is one of life’s most difficult lessons—but it’s also one of the most important.

That is why good sportsmanship is so easy to spot and heartwarming for audience members to witness.

It’s a show of strength of character not defeat!
