Today I want to chat about something called 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 of Mind Trap Series.
Ever been in a meeting where everyone just nods along to the same idea? That’s 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤. It’s when we care more about everyone agreeing than coming up with the best idea. It can stop us from thinking creatively and making good decisions.
So, how can we stop this from happening?
Let’s Hear All Ideas: Different opinions can help us come up with better solutions.
Safe Space: Make sure everyone in your team feels safe to share their ideas, even if they’re different.
Play Devil’s Advocate: Get someone to challenge the popular opinion. It can spark a good debate.
Own Your Ideas: Encourage your team to take responsibility for their ideas. It can help them feel more confident to share.
Show Them How It’s Done: As a leader, you can set the tone. Be the first to ask questions and challenge ideas.
As CFOs, we need to make sure we’re making the best decisions, and that means avoiding 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤. Let’s make sure we’re really listening to all the different ideas in the room.
